The other day I was watching a movie called ‘Beyond The Blackboard’ (based on a true story), it was a great uplifting movie. It’s about a housewife/mother who wants to teach and the school she get hired with tells her she needs to teach homeless kids, so yes it’s in the homeless community. Well, during the movie, the film kept showing the teacher’s car, as she drove up each morning and yes I was waiting for her car to be stolen, which it never did. The worst thing that happened was some people stole the TV she was going to use for her class that day.

After I watched this encouraging, uplifting movie. I thought, “Wow! My mind is corrupt from the movies I watch.”  And I need to get my mind back on uplifting things. “But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them” (Matthew 15:18.) “For out of the heart come evil thoughts–murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander” (Matthew 15:19.) “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it” (Proverbs 4:23.) “I made a covenant with my eyes not to look lustfully at a young woman” (Job 31:1.) “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things” (Colossians 3:2)

How do these evil thoughts get inside of us? They don’t just appear, maybe we hang around negative people, watch negative movies, listen to negative music and or play negative video games.

A few years ago, I was in a disciple training program called Master’s Commission. We weren’t allowed to watch Rated R movies, so when I was on vacation to visit my sister we went to the theater and one of the movies that looked at, looked maybe good to watch happen to be Rated R, so we when watch the other movie that was PG-13. A little surprise in the movie was a 3 second clip of nudity. Wow! Why isn’t this rated R?

“There is essentially no difference between the most popular movies rated PG-13 for younger viewers and restricted, R-rated films in showing main characters engaged in both violence and alcohol use or violence and sexual behavior,” according to the study. But watching violent material may have an effect on the mind, according to The Los Angeles Times.

So watching PG-13, TV-14, Rated R, TV-MA and even Not Rated movies are corrupt, I don’t even know why some movies are not rated, they should all be.

To my next point, to all those K-LOVE listeners, you may remember month ago or so, K-LOVE had a 30-day Christian music challenge, to only listen to Christian music. I didn’t do this, because it’s not a challenge, since all I listen to is Christian music.

But instead of music, I have started as of yesterday to do a movie challenge. Only watching Christian movies & or PG/G rated only. Yes there are Christian movies rated PG-13 & rated R, but since their Christian based. It’s okay to watch, such as “The Passion of Christ.”

I am doing a 1 year challenge, why 1 year? I don’t watch movies everyday so if I were do the challenge for 30 days and only watch 3 or 4 movies, it’s really not going to impact me a whole lot.

If you have Netflix, to my knowledge, you have to filter what you want to watch. If you have Xbox or PSN, go into “Settings” then “Family” then “Ratings and Content.” Change the movie rating to PG & TV rating to PG. You do have free apps to watch free movies. For other apps like Amazon, Redbox, look to see if you can filter the movies.
