It is easy to discover the condition of someone’s heart; just listen to his speech. Jesus said:”Out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks” (Luke 6;45) Peace and joy can be the result of our words if we allow our Lord Jesus Christ to change us from the inside out. Jesus said: “Without Me you can do nothing” (John 15:5). Our constant prayer should be: “Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips.” (Psalm 141:3) If we dwell in the Word of God, we can overcome the condition of a troubled heart.Through setting our hearts and minds on treasure not of this world, but on the Lord’s eternal kingdom, wecan tame our tongues and lead other to Christ’s cleansing love.
As you continue your time with the Lord, praise Him that He can cleanse your heart and purify your speech; “Let my mouth be filled with Your praise and with Your glory all the day… I will hope continually, and will praise You yet more and more. My mouth shall tell of Your righteousness and Your salvation all the day, for I do not know their limits. I will go in the strength of the Lord God; I will make mention of Your righteousness of Yours only” (Psalm 71:8, 14-16).
Now pray this confession to tho Lord to keep your lifef free from sin and in fellowship with Him: “I love the LORD because He has heart, my voice and my supplications. Because He has inclined His ear to me, therefore I will call upon Him as long as I live” (Psalm 116:1-2).
Confess any sins that the Holy Spirit brings to your mind/ Thank the Lord that He comforts you and forgives you: “I, even I, am He who comforts you… I have covered you with the shadow of My hand (Isaiah 51:12, 16).
As you make your requests known to the Lord, remember:
- Those who have been hurt by your words,
- More patience and self-control,
- The needs of your best friend.
Now offer this closing prayer to the Lord; “Abide in Me,and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me” (John 15:4)
“Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit. You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.” (Matthew 12:33-37)
“The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.” (2 Corinthians 13:14)
