Praying with Authority

Our Authority in Jesus

“I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy.” – Luke 10:19 (NLT) The gift of salvation has many incredible, facets. Through faith in the death and resurrestion of Jesus Christ, God has forgiven our sin and exchanged it for the righteousness of His Son. He has removed us from the kingdom of death, and placed us in His kingdom of light. He has baptized us with the Holy Spirit and given us wonderful gifts with which to serve Him. And He has seated us in Christ, in heavenly places, and shares the power and authority of Jesus with those who believe in Him.

As you read the following Scripture verses, ask God to give you understanding of the power and authority that are yours in Christ. Begin to pray aloud, using the principles you find here in God’s words. You’ll find that your faith will be strengthened as you begin to realize in a greater way all that Jesus Christ has accomplished on your behalf. There is great power in the name of Jesus. The highest authority in the universe has pledged His love to you. His promise is to be with you always, in every situation you encounter. May God bless you as you step out in faith and believe Him at His word.

Jesus Christ Has All Authority

“I have been given complete authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” – Matthew 28:18-20 NLT

The Authority of the Name of Jesus

“God raised Him up to the heights of heaven and Him a name that is above every other name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow…and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” – Philippians 2:9-11 NLT

“There is salvation in no one else! There is no other name in all of heaven for people to call on to save them.” – Acts 4:12 NLT

ImageOur Instructions: Pray in the Name of Jesus

“I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce fruit that will last, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using My name. I command you to love each other.” – John 15:16-17 NLT

“You can go directly to the Father and ask Him, and He will grant your request because you use My name. …Ask, using My name, and you will receive, and you will have abundant joy.” – John 16:23-24 NLT

Use the Power of Jesus’ Name and Bind Satan and His Evil Spirits

“I tell you the truth, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will loosed in heaven. Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by My Father in heaven. For where two or three come together in My name, there am I with them.” – Matthew 18:18-20 NIV

“The truth is, anyone who believes in Me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father. You can ask for anything in My name, and I will do it, because the work of the Son brings glory to the Father. Yes, ask anything in My name, and I will do it! If you love Me, obey My commandments.” – John 14:12-15 NLT

When you ask of something “in His name” it means, if it’s in His will, He hears us. Not just because we say “in His name” and all things will happen. “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.” – 1 John 5:14 NIV
